College Conference Action Plans

College Preaching in Action Conference

May 21-26 2024, Molloy University, Rockville Centre, NY


DYMUSA welcomed college students from all over the country to the College Preaching in Action Conference held at Molloy University in Rockville Centre, NY at the end of May.

Students attended from across the nation - from Aquinas College, Albertus Magnus College, Caldwell University, Dominican University New York, Edgewood College, Molloy University, Siena Heights University, Mount Saint Mary College, Xavier University of Louisiana, Ohio Dominican University, and St. Thomas Aquinas College.


Each school group created an action plan to bring home what they learned from the conference. Some of the items featured in the action plans included

  • Hosting a preaching night and including all religions

  • Trying to advertise campus ministry to more students

  • Increasing visibility


Action Plans by College

"We, the preachers"

Aquinas College

We, the preachers of Aquinas College, will preach with our lives by:

1. Do something for the sisters, with the sisters

2. Host a preaching night and include all religions

3. Series of presentation nights for service opportunities and other campus ministry events

Caldwell University

We, the preachers of Caldwell University, will preach with our lives by:

1. Larger, interpersonal aimed events with the sisters (minimum one per year)

2. Intentional partnerships with different student organizations that reflect the four pillars

3. Integrate Student preaching into at least one liturgy per semester

4. Increase visibility

Dominican University New York

We, the preachers of Dominican University NY, will preach with our lives by:

1. Adopt a sister program on campus

2. Initiate a Dominican Youth Movement chapter on campus with STAC and/or RCC

3. Work with freshmen seminar classes to integrate Dominican values

Xavier University of Louisiana

We, the preachers of Xavier University of Louisiana, will preach with our lives by:

  1. Unifying all groups in the office of campus ministry to spread the Dominican tradition on campus through the Campus Ministry Advisory Council Groups: KPC, Collegiate 100, CRS

2. Presenting for faculty and staff on our preaching conference experience

3. Inviting Sister Katherine and Sisters currently at Barry University to speak at an event to introduce DYA

Albertus Magnus College

We, the preachers of Albertus Magnus College, will preach with our lives by:

1. A once a month student led and created bilingual prayer service.

2. A once a month bible study/faith sharing group that is student led.

Mount Saint Mary College

We, the preachers of Mount Saint Mary College, will preach with our lives by:

1. To get students and other members of the college community to know more about the values of our college- the Dominican Tradition (Four Pillars and the Rosary) to feel more connected to the school. This will be done when students and faculty start at the school by including presentations incorporated in theology class, student engagement events, and included around campus on posters (visuals), and spoken about at mass.

Molloy University

We, the preachers of Molloy University will preach with our lives by:

1. "Adopt a sister" initiative where you spend time with a sister and learn about them

2. Continue to grow DYA and Grateful Gatherings (Book programs that are for young Catholic communities)

Siena Heights University

We, the preachers of Siena Heights University, will preach with our lives by:

1. Forming a foundation for a core group that we want to become

2. Finding new ways to connect the communities of Siena Heights and Adrian Dominican Sisters

3. Try to advertise campus ministry to more students

St. Thomas Aquinas College

We, the preachers of St. Thomas Aquinas College, will preach with our lives by:

  1. Creating awareness of and a solid knowledge about the Dominican Order, connecting this and the STAC's mission, vision, and value statements

  2. We will collaborate with student engagement, students and faculty to create opportunities and programs that will deepen our commitment to the four pillars of the Dominican Order and connections to the founders of our college the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill.

Ohio Dominican University

  1. Hosting monthly events around each of the four pillars: prayer, study, community, and service

  1. Preaching at three on campus liturgies

  2. Reviving our relationships with our founding sisters

The Dominican Youth Movement USA (DYMUSA) is a nationwide non-profit organization connecting youth/young adults to the Dominican Order’s tradition of preaching with their own call to preach. In 2015 DYMUSA brought together five different programs engaging young people of high school age through their young adult years – unifying their support and promoting their collective social impact.
